September 1st 2012: On Toast Gateway community cafe opened.

An exciting new community co-op was launched on September 1st to create pre-employment catering and retail training and work placement opportunities for local residents.

Working with technical support from Co-operative Futures the On Toast Gateway is a community co-op with 3 core partners the Redwell Young People Centre (run by Together In Matson which brings together 3 local churches), the Gateway partnership (GL Communities, Residents Association and GGT) and On Toast ( a sole trader who has established one trading unit in Gloucester Docks www.ontoast-uk.com )

The On Toast Gateway co-op will also be providing the onsite catering for the building workers at the motorway services site whilst it is being built. The co-op has been working closely with the nearby Gloucester Academy so it creates new work placements for its new catering students . Gloucester Academy and GGT  have been working increasingly closely since GGT encouraged Business in the Community to launch its Business Class initiative in Gloucester in 2011 and the On Toast Gateway co-op has been one of the first resulting initiatives. Any profits generated will be used as agreed by the co-op members to support additional training, education and other community opportunities.
